Impart Your Machines The Power To Work With Power Pack

The Power Pack is a part of the machine that generates energy and converts the generated energy into the form that is useful for the functioning of the machine. In general, power packs are regarded as the ‘generator’ part of the machine that generate energy required for the working of the actuator or the motor part of the machine. The generator and the actuator parts of the machine, put together, are called as the power train. A power train can be described as all the components of a machine that generate the energy required and deliver the generated energy for the working of the machine. That is, a power train is the framework that transforms the stored energy into the kinetic energy for the purpose of movement.

The generator part can either consist of a rotating arrangement, where the rotational energy is converted to fluid power, or a piston-rod arrangement which pushes the working substance to give out the required work. The former of the above-mentioned cases resembles a hydraulic power pack where the working substance is liquid like oil. In hydraulic power packs, the generated energy is first converted into rotational energy and then to fluid power. This fluid power is used in performing works like moving of pistons (like in a linear actuator) and lifting of weights.

The principle difference between the power pack and other parts of the power train is that a power pack can be conveniently detached from the rest of the machine and can be replaced by another power pack while the former is being repaired. This saves a lot of time and money that would have been invested had the detachment been difficult. Power packs are used in military vehicles and instruments because of this convenience. An important characteristic of industrial power packs is durability and the ability to work for long hours. The hydraulic power packs are effective as in that the working substance, which is oil, is less compressed and hence gives a greater output work.

Two types of power packs are generally available. They are: DC power packs and AC power packs. The DC power packs, also known as compact power packs, run on direct electric current. These employ batteries as their source of energy. The AC power packs run on alternating current energy mode. The AC power packs are used for heavy load works like the lifting of cars, dock leveling, etc. The general capacity of the hydraulic AC power pack is 1 HP and the general flow rate of the fluid (working substance) out of the reservoir is 300 liters per minute.
